Surrounded by a group of His bhaktas, the son of Saci reveled in sri-hari-sankirtana of Sri Hari’s names. With His arms ever raised to the sky, He cried out, “Hari Bol!”
(Sri Krsna Caitanya-carita Mahakavya 4.1)

Like the distressed crying of the cataka birds on a cloudless day of the rainy season, or the lamenting of a flock of cakravaki birds when parted from their husbands at night, the sanklrtana of the Lord’s names arises when one is burdened by too much pain. (Brihad-bhagavatamrita 2.3.167)
Comm.: …The true way of doing bhagavan-nama-sankirtana is to call out to one’s beloved Lord in agony, expressing one’s feelings in various sweet songs to attract Him…

Sukadeva Gosvami continued: My dear King, congregational chanting of the holy name of the Lord is the most auspicious activity for the entire world and is capable of nullifying the reactions of even the greatest sins. Please try to understand this so that others will take it seriously. (SB 6.3.31)

For the dear devotees of the Lord sankirtana was the be-all and end-all of their lives. Who would not be attracted to their sankirtana? (Sri Bhakti-ratnakara 13.116)

SP: Kirtana is our life & soul, so we must be very concerned to have it no matter where we are and no matter what circumstances are there. (Letter to Yamuna, 22 December 1971)

By congregationally chanting the holy names you achieve everything, including the goal of life and the process for attaining it. (CB Adi 14.143)
Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Prabhupada: …Love of Krishna is the sadhya, and congregational chanting the names of Krishna is the sadhana. Any questions that may arise in this regard can be resolved only by chanting the names of Krishna.

nama-sankirtana—saba ananda-svarupa
“The Absolute Truth is Sri Krsna, and loving devotion to Sri Krsna in pure love is achieved through congregational chanting of the holy name, which is the essence of all bliss.” (CC Adi-lila 1.96)

maha-bhagavata nityam kalau sankirtya kesavam
The hallmark of a mahabhagavata (the most elevated devotee) in kali-yuga is that he chants the holy name of the Lord constantly. (Skanda Purana)

Of the many ways to chant Krsna’s glories, foremost is His nama-sankirtana. It is deemed the best because it can evoke at once the treasure of pure love for Krsna. (Brhad-Bhagavatamrta 2.3.158)

nama-sankirtanam proktam krishnasya prema-sampadi
balishtham sadhanam sreshtham paramakarsha-mantravat
The sankirtana of Krsna’s names is praised as the best and most powerful means to attain the treasure of krsna-prema. It is like a potent mantra that can attract precious objects from a distance. (Brhad-Bhagavatamrta 2.3.164)

tad eva manyate bhakteh phalam tad-rasikair janaih
bhagavat-prema-sampattau sadaivavyabhicaratah
Because nama-sankirtana invariably leads to the treasure of pure love for the Lord, true connoisseurs of devotional service consider nama-sankirtana the very fruit of bhakti. (Brhad-Bhagavatamrta 2.3.165)
Comm.: According to many pure devotees, nama-sankirtana is not only the best means of devotional service but the final perfection itself. Of course, prema is the final goal of bhakti, but nama-sankirtana so quickly and infallibly leads to prema that the two are considered virtually identical. Wherever prema is seen to have developed, one can presume that nama-sankirtana must have been performed. Nama-sankirtana is the necessary and sufficient cause of prema.

Even though in the age of Kali one should perform the other eight limbs of bhakti, nevertheless, emphatically one must perform them in conjunction with kirtana. Therefore it is stated in Srimad Bhagavatam 11.5.32, yajnaih sankirtana-prayair yajanti hisumedhasah, “Those who are intelligent in this age of Kali will worship the Lord through the performance of sankirtana”. In this regard nama-kirtana is offered especial praises because it is independent. (The reason for this is that all of the other angas of bhakti are included within kirtana and are dependent on kirtana for their potency in Kali yuga.) (Krama-Sandarbha commentary to SB 7.5.23-24)

ataeva yady apy anya bhaktih kalau kartavya

This means that in Kali yuga if one performs any of the other eight limbs of devotional service, they must be performed in conjunction with kirtana, chanting of the holy name. (Bhakti Sandarbha 273)

“I have incarnated to inaugurate the sankirtana movement. I will destroy all sinners who oppose the kirtana. If even the most sinful person chants the holy names, I will certainly remember him. But if even ascetics, sannyasis, jnanis, and yogis do not engage in kirtana, I will destroy them. (CB Madhya 23.402-404)

The next day Gauranga sat on a divine seat and said, “The glories of sankirtana-yajna are mentioned in all scriptures. It is the essence of dharma, especially in the age of Kali. This truth is revealed in the fifth Veda [Mahabharata, Puranas] and glorified by the five-mouthed Lord Siva.
“Narada, playing his vina and dancing, along with Sukadeva and Sanat Kumara, continually praises the sankirtana-yajna. In Vrndavana, Radha and Krishna dance ecstatically with the gopis inprema sankirtana. Sankirtana-yajna also exists in Goloka. Lord Siva glorifies that mahabhava prerna, but cannot attain that degree of pure love. That same love I manifest in Kali-yuga. (Caitanya mangala Madhya 8)

O Gopa Kumara! If you desire to have the eternal association of the lotus feet of the Lord, then you should perform pure devotional service, in which is sankirtana is prominent. (Brihad-bhagavatamrita 2.3.144)
Comm.: …Bhagavan-nama-sankirtana, loud chanting of the holy name of the Lord, is the most effective way to achieve Vaikuntha, or whatever else one may desire. But the chanting must be practiced in pure devotion, unmixed with motives of karma and jnana.

One develops that love by practicing the devotional service whose main ways are meditation on and singing about the many Vraja pastimes of the Lord. That service becomes brilliant by sankirtana of the Lord’s most beloved holy names.
COMMENTARY: Vaidhi-sadhana-bhakti, which consists of nine basic devotional practices, beginning with hearing, chanting, and remembering, prepares a devotee’s heart for the awakening of prema, love of God. Dhyana and gana — the general meth¬ods of remembering and chanting about the Supreme Lord and His pastimes — transform, in the advanced stages of sadhana, into prestha-nama-sankirtana, ecstatic absorption in the nectarean names of one’s worshipable Lord. This sankirtana is the most essential means for achieving prema. By nama-sankirtana one easily realizes the full glories of Krsna and His pleasure potency. (Brihad-bhagavatamrita 2.5.218)
